Five Amtrak rail cars are on their sides after derailing early Monday in Gray County, Kansas. The Southwest Chief train, heading from Los Angeles to Chicago, derailed some of its cars about 20 miles west of Dodge City just after midnight local time, Amtrak said in a statement. There were an estimated 128 passengers and 14 crew members on board. Local emergency responders were at the scene. The Kansas Highway Patrol said at least 20 people were hospitalized with injuries, but none were life-threatening. Federal investigators were traveling to the site of the accident, which occured on track owned and operated by BNSF Railway.
