Congressional staffer refuses to allow his wife to separate.
Ancient law, meet modern America. A prominent Jewish man, Aharon Friedman, is stirring controversy by refusing to grant his wife, Tamar Epstein, a “get,” permission to divorce and remarry under Jewish law. Friedman, a congressional staffer and orthodox Jew, is angry over the custody arrangement, which dramatically reduces the time he can spend with his daughter as he is doctrinally prohibited from driving during the Sabbath. The case has prompted a wave of public protests throughout the mid-Atlantic Jewish community.
