Andrew Gillum, the Democratic candidate for Florida’s gubernatorial race, has reversed course after conceding defeat to his Republican opponent earlier this week. In comments made Saturday shortly after the secretary of state ordered a recount, Gillum said, “I am replacing my earlier concession with an unapologetic and uncompromised call to count every vote.” His statement came as news of the recount left President Trump claiming Democrats were trying to “steal” the election, a conclusion other Republicans made throughout the week as Gillum and Democrat Bill Nelson, a candidate Florida’s Senate race, caught up to their Republican opponents in late vote counting.
