If you thought it was odd that dozens of states and several presidential candidates suddenly felt the need to address the threat of Sharia law being used in courts, you’d be right. The laws banning the use of Sharia, which have been passed in Oklahoma and Tennessee and have considered elsewhere, are the work of David Yerushalmi, a 56-year-old Hasidic Jew with a law office in Brooklyn. Working with conservative groups and former intelligence officials, Yerushalmi, who has a history of anti-Muslim polemics, drafted model legislation that he and the groups he works with promoted around the country.
