After violently destroying Rohingya Muslims’ villages, the Myanmar army has turned to starving out the remaining Rohingya population, according to the Associated Press. While the AP could not independently verify the use of this tactic due to restrictions of the press in Myanmar and silence from the military, tales told by those in nearby refugee camps and doctors’ assessments of newcomers support the claim. The refugees said the military has not let them gather resources from the land, stolen their cattle, blocked food aid, and has killed Rohingya for “illegal fishing.” “They are definitely coming in starving,” Dr. Ismail Mehr told the AP. “We saw the vitamin deficiencies in the children and the adults; we saw... severely malnourished people who are basically skin and bones. It looked like the pictures from the Nazi camps.”
