The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a federal judge to issue an injunction to prevent Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer from banning young immigrants from obtaining driver’s licenses. The formal mandate came Wednesday, just hours after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Brewer’s request for a stay and cleared the path for young immigrants, or DREAMers, to receive licenses. The ruling affects roughly 22,000 Arizonans who arrived in U.S. without documents as children, and were accepted by the Obama administration’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in 2012. U.S. District Court Judge David Campbell could issue the injunction as early as Thursday, which is the final step in forcing the state to lift the ban.
