Jonathan Ive, Apple's chief of design, is now Sir. Jonathan, Knight Commander of the British Empire. Ive started working at Apple in 1992 and helped design the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. Steve Jobs described Ive as his “spiritual partner.” The honor is "absolutely thrilling," Ive said. "I am keenly aware that I benefit from a wonderful tradition in the U.K. of designing and making," he said. "I discovered at an early age that all I've ever wanted to do is design." Ive was born in London, the son of a silversmith.
