‘Aquaman’ Bests ‘Mary Poppins’ at the Box Office

It’s going to take more than a spoonful of sugar to make this medicine go down. Aquaman was No. 1 at the box office again, beating out Mary Poppins Returns. The fish-man took in another $51 million, for a total of $188 million domestically—and is likely to gross close to a billion bucks globally before its run is over. Mary Poppins, meanwhile, earned $28 million, putting its box-office total close to $100 million. Those two were followed by Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and The Mule. Making an impressive showing in a limited opening was On the Basis of Sex, about Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, which took in $1.5 million.
