Leaders of the Arab League on Wednesday gave Syria a new deadline of three days to end its "repression." Crowds loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad attacked at least two Arab nations' embassies, throwing stones and debris, in retaliation for the regional organization's action. Meanwhile, Syrian opposition groups say they have attacked a major intelligence base in Damascus, in what would be their most serious pushback yet to a growing government crackdown on dissent. The coalition reported “several explosions” and a gunfight at the headquarters of Syria’s air force intelligence, one of the agencies most heavily involved in tamping down antigovernment protests that have killed at least 3,500 people since March. Syrian opposition groups say 14 soldiers and 17 civilians were killed Wednesday.
