Arab League Urges Members to Confront IS

The head of the Arab League told the bloc’s members that they must confront Islamic State militants both “militarily and politically.” Nabil Elaraby said Arab countries must take a “clear and firm decision for a comprehensive confrontation” with “cancerous and terrorist” groups. The Arab League move could spark broader support for President Obama as he attempts to assemble an international coalition to take on Islamic State, also known as ISIS, as the extremist group tries to create a caliphate in the Middle East. Support from Arab League countries, which include Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan, would be a welcome addition to the assistance Obama has already been assured by NATO.
