Aretha Franklin’s funeral service will take place in Detroit on August 31, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Franklin’s body will lie in repose from August 28 to 29 in the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, where viewing will be open to the public. Her funeral will then be held at the Greater Grace Temple on August 31, and will be limited to her “family and friends.” Local Detroit outlet WDIV reports that organizers are also working on a “musical tribute with major recording artists,” with the venue yet to be decided. The Queen of Soul died at age 76 on Thursday, and her body is reportedly being held at Swanson Funeral Home in Detroit. WDIV reports that local fans have been gathering in front of New Bethel Baptist Church, where Franklin first sang, to pay tribute to the legendary vocalist. Stars came out on social media to honor Franklin once the news broke, and Ariana Grande sang a musical tribute to her Thursday night.
