Ariana Grande unveiled a new tattoo on Instagram Tuesday, but what the pop star thought said “7 Rings” in Japanese—a tribute to her most recent song—actually means “BBQ Grill.” Fans were quick to point out that the tattoo uses the correct Japanese Kanji symbols for “seven” and “ring,” but when put together their meaning changes entirely. The correct assembly of characters should have been “七つの指輪” (7 Rings), a detail Grande got correct in the title card for her music video for the same song. The tattoo’s symbols written as “七輪” combine to mean “shichirin,” a small charcoal grill that Japanese people use to barbecue their foods. The internet quickly swooped in to alert the singer of her mistake. Grande has since deleted her posts featuring the tattoo.
