Here's one approach to campus violence. The Arizona House approved a bill allowing firearms to be carried either in the open or concealed on college campuses. Supporters of the bill argue that guns could save lives in a campus shooting, while opponents say the law puts campus police at a dangerous disadvantage in preventing shootings. The bill passed 33 to 24 and now goes to Governor Jan Brewer for approval. If she signs it, Arizona will join Utah as the second state to specifically allow such gun rights. Utah's law goes even further, explicitly allowing guns inside campus buildings, while Arizona's only mentions campus public spaces. Nine states have bills this year to expand gun rights on college campuses.
