It might be a new era of civility in Arizona, but it’s also a new era of gun policy. No, not gun control: The state legislature may soon designate the Colt revolver Arizona’s official firearm. Nearly half of the state’s legislators have signed on as co-sponsors of a bill to do that, which cleared the Senate Appropriations Committee Wednesday. A Colt lobbyist argued that the revolver is a key part of the state’s frontier history, but gun-control activists argue the move sends the wrong message, especially coming just weeks after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was gravely injured and six others killed in a shooting in Tucson.
