Police in Russia have arrested the man suspected of murdering Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya in 2006. Rustam Makhmudov was arrested at his parents’ home in Chechnya. Politkovskaya was gunned down outside her home in Moscow. Makhmudov’s two brothers and a former police officer had been charged in 2009 for acting as drivers and providing support; they were acquitted, but Russia’s Supreme Court ordered them retried.
