After making landfall on the southern tip of North Carolina's barrier islands on Thursday, Hurricane Arthur headed back over the Atlantic, leaving the East Coast with only some hard rains. The storm managed to disrupt Boston's fireworks display that had been rescheduled for Thursday night; despite the intermittent rain, the Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating contest on New York's Coney Island proceeded as planned. Arthur has been downgraded from a Category Two hurricane to a Category One as it moved north toward Nova Scotia on Saturday. Most of the East Coast remained under flash flood warnings through Friday, and some tornados are still expected in North Carolina and elsewhere.
