Assad: I'll Retake the Whole Country

Despite ceasefire talks.

Despite ongoing ceasefire talks in Syria, President Bashar al-Assad said Thursday that he would retake the entire country even though it could "a long time." Assad said he would support peace talks but that doesn't mean "we stop fighting terrorism." The news came hours after Secretary of State John Kerry had announced that world powers agreed to implement a “cessation of hostilities” in the country. This would not apply to the fighting between ISIS and the al-Nusra Front, a branch of Al Qaeda, within the country. According to Kerry, a United Nations task force will be implemented to make sure that humanitarian access is provided to all sides. It has yet to be determined if the parties on the ground will in fact abide by the terms of the agreement.
