Astronomers are thrilled at the discovery of a diamond star, made of 10 billion trillion trillion carats, they have named “Lucy,” after the Beatles song, “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,” The 4,000 km-across gem is the heart of a once-bright white dwarf star that crystallized. Scientists have long believed that the center of white dwarves, which are the leftovers after a star has burned all its fuel and dies, crystallized, but only recently found the evidence. Our sun could become a massive diamond in about 7 billion years. "You would need a jeweller's loupe the size of the Sun to grade" Lucy, and astronomer says.
