Collin McHugh and the Astros defeated the Kansas City Royals in a 5-2 victory in the opener of the American League Division Series on Thursday, giving Houston a 1-0 series lead. The Astros took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning while McHugh pitched six innings, giving up four hits and two earned runs. Meanwhile, the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3, in the first MLB postseason game in Canada in 22 years. The win was marred by an injury to Texas power-hitter Adrian Beltre, who left the game in the third inning with tears in his eyes from a back problem and could be out for the remainder of the playoffs. Game 2 for each series will be played Friday.
