At least 11 Ukrainian military personnel have reportedly been killed in an attack on a Donetsk base in eastern Ukraine. They died when armed “terrorists” attacked a checkpoint, the defense ministry says. Another 30 have reportedly been wounded in fights with “terrorists.” Ukrainian officials generally refer to armed pro-Russian separatists as terrorists. Skirmishes in Donetsk with separatists have been going on for days now, and there were widespread fears that there would be attacks in this industrial region ahead of elections on Sunday. This is the deadliest attack to date.
