A Bronx apartment fire killed at least 12 and injured others Thursday night, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. A 1-year-old and a 4-year-old child were among the dead. The building was still being searched as of 10 p.m. The fire was the city’s worst in several decades, de Blasio said. The blaze began on the third floor of a five-story apartment building in the Belmont neighborhood of the New York City borough shortly before 7 p.m. and quickly reached four-alarm status. More than 150 firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the blaze. Evacuees fled onto the frigid street, where the temperature felt like -10 degrees Fahrenheit, with windchill.
