Don't Cry for Them

Auction of Over 14,000 of Eva and Juan Peron's Belongings

Even after her death, the beloved Evita Peron cannot give enough to the people as an Internet auction of more than 14,000 objects belonging to her and her late husband, Argentine President Juan Peron, is projected to raise more than $20 million for humanitarian efforts. The sale begins online February 22 with 41 lots, but new items will be added weekly for the next three months. Among the items to be auctioned are a Limoges jewelry box from dancer Josephine Baker and two fans that Spanish flamenco dancer Miguel de Molina and playwright Jacinto Benavente each gave Evita. Many of the auctioned objects are associated with Spain from Peron’s years living in exile there, says the auction’s organizer, Mario Rotundo.
