An avalanche in Austria killed three German skiers, and one remains missing, The Guardian reported on Sunday. These skiers were using touring skis, which let skiers climb and descend slopes, in addition to venturing off open trails. They perished near the Austrian ski resort of Lech am Arlberg. Two ski patrollers at a resort in the French Alps also died while they worked to prevent avalanches, according to the Associated Press. French Police in the Haute-Savoie region said that these patrollers died when the materials they were using to trigger controlled avalanches exploded. Over the past month, at least 25 people in some European regions have been victims of weather-related deaths, per The Guardian.
