SHELTERING IN PLACE
Our lawmakers are among the lucky ones now who survived a violent incident and lived to have the chance to make the changes that determine the strength and quality of our republic.
Carol Ann Davis is a poet and essayist. She is a professor at Fairfield University, where she founded of Poetry in Communities, a program offering poetry outreach to communities hit by sudden or systemic violence. Her forthcoming book, The Nail in the Tree: Essays on Art, Parenting, and Violence, will be published next year.
