BLACK WHERE?
My ethnic background is living history. And yet, wherever I am on Earth, people often look for a label that doesn’t quite fit.
Lateef Daumont was born and raised in Oakland, California. He graduated from UC Berkeley, and is a founding member of the legendary Solesides/Quannum independent record label and crew which includes Blackalicious (Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel), Lyrics Born, and DJ Shadow. Lateef is a label owner, MC, Community Organizer, Grammy nominee and, now, a published column author.
