Former New Orleans Saints defensive end Will Smith was shot eight times while his wife, Racquel, was shot twice in the legs, the family’s lawyer told reporters Wednesday. New Orleans coroner Jeffrey Rouse confirmed that preliminary autopsy results showed Smith was shot seven times in the back and once in the chest and the ex-NFL star’s death was ruled as a homicide. Rouse added toxicology results will be available in six to eight weeks. Police say Cardell Hayes shot Smith on Saturday after a confrontation over a traffic collision. Though Hayes has been arrested on a second-degree murder charge, investigators are still looking into whether a loaded gun that was discovered inside Smith’s car played a role in the incident.
