An Iraqi immigrant in Arizona who allegedly killed his daughter for becoming too Western was sentenced Friday to serve 34 years for her death and the assault of a man she was with. Faleh Hassan Almalek will serve 16 years on charges of second-degree murder relating to the death of his daughter, Noor Almaleki. He will also serve an additional 15 years for the aggravated assault of Amal Khalaf, a family friend who was with Noor when Almalek ran her over with his car. He was also sentenced to a total of 3 1/2 years on two counts of hit and run. Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Roland Steinle said he was struck by Almalek’s lack of remorse, and commented that forgiveness is the core of all religions.
