Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that Carl Ferrer, the CEO of Backpage.com, was arrested at a Houston airport upon returning from Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon. Ferrer’s Netherlands-based company has offices in Dallas, and the CEO is set to face pimping charges in California stemming from investigations into the company’s allowance of sex for sale on their site—including allegations of minors being sold. “It’s disheartening that such organized, deep-seated evil happened in our back yard,” Paxton said of Backpage.com, adding: “We cannot allow this evil to endure.”
