The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office is investigating rape allegations against Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Santa Monica Police Department said it presented the case to the DA’s office on Tuesday after a sexual harassment case was filed with the department in February, although they wouldn’t say who filed the case. Melissa Schuman, former member of the all-girl pop group Dream, publicly alleged in November 2017 that Carter raped her in the early 2000s. A day before police confirmed the filing, she tweeted that she was “filing a police report” and thanked the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network for “empowering [her] to take this step.” In a blog post, Schuman outlined how Carter allegedly performed sex acts on her and forced her to perform sex acts on him despite her repeated refusals. Carter said he was “shocked and saddened” by the allegations when they first surfaced and said he believed the incident was “consensual.”
