A suicide bombing in a Sunni mosque in western Baghdad has killed 29 people, including Khaled al-Fahdawi, a member of Parliament from the western province of Anbar. Elderly men and even children were also among the victims. The Umm al-Qura mosque was the main headquarters of the Sunni Endowment, which maintains Sunni Muslim religious sites across the city. The head of the mosque, Ahmed Abdulghafur al-Samarrai, is often targeted for his sermons against violent extremism and terrorism. The deadly attack came just days before the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
