More than 50 people are dead and dozens are missing in Bangladesh after a ferry carrying 1,000 passengers capsized late Friday night. The accident occurred as passengers were trying to disembark from a ship carrying people returning home from a celebration of Eid, the holiday that marks the completion of Ramadan. "As I saw water in the lower deck I jumped through the window and swam ashore," a survivor told The Guardian. "Also, many passengers were frightened after seeing water in the lower deck and started rushing out, causing the boat to tilt on one side." On Sunday, rescuers were able to right the ship, easing their efforts.
