The film director famous for his flashy and lavish style has tried his hand at a new form: a multimedia installation called The Creek, unveiled in Hong Kong on May 26. Done in collaboration with painter Vincent Fantauzzo, the installation centers on a large oil painting featuring the rescue efforts for a car that veered off a bridge. The painting is placed in a dark room lit by candles and photographs from Luhrmann’s childhood in Australia, while an audio clip about the rescue plays in the background. Luhrmann said he is “fascinated” by narrative structure in classical artworks.
