Maybe he meant it as a commentary on the role of technology in news? BBC Newsman Simon McCoy clutched a ream of A4 paper during a morning broadcast on drunk tanks, mistaking it for his iPad. McCoy realized his mistake, but the consummate professional carried on and read the news with paper in hand, much to the delight of a bewildered audience. “In the rush of live news, he didn’t have an opportunity to swap the items, so simply went with it,” a spokesperson said. The Internet followed quickly after, turning the 51-year-old’s on-air blunder into a meme: holding a bunny, with a pizza, and more.
