Disney’s Beauty and the Beast topped the weekend box office, raking in $88.3 million in its second weekend. Lionsgate’s Power Rangers came in a distant second, earning $40.5 million. Analysts say Power Rangers had a majority-male audience, while Beauty and the Beast’s crowd was mostly female. Warner Bros.’ CHiPs underperformed, bringing in just $7.6 million in its debut weekend. March ticket sales surpassed $1 billion this weekend, making this the all-time best March for the box office.
