Beijing officials ordered the closure of hundreds of factorires and allowed children to skip school Tuesday as smog levels reached more than 25 times the safe index. Primary and middle schools were asked to stop outdoor activities, and students were permitted to stay home. The move came one day after China issued its highest smog alert level for 2015.
