Belgium: ‘Number of’ Terror-linked Arrests

NEIGHBORS

Cops raid Brussels neighborhood.

A “number of” arrests have been made in a Brussels neighborhood where three of the eight Paris attackers are believed to be from, Belgium’s justice minister said. L’Observateur reports that French train attacker Thalys Ayoub el-Khazzani had been staying in the same neighborhood, Molenbeek, prior to the attack, and that Jewish Museum of Belgium attacker Mehdi Nemmouche lived there for two months after returning from Syria. One eyewitness told The Daily Beast a gunman entered a car with Belgian license plates following the attack on a restaurant Friday. Belgium has long been considered Europe’s weak link in the fight against terrorism. The country has supplied ISIS with more fighters as a share of population than any other European nation: 40 per 1 million residents.
