Retired neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson was confirmed Thursday to be secretary of Housing and Urban Development by a 58-41 vote in the Senate. Carson’s nomination was unanimously sent out of committee and some Democrats, including Mark Warner of Virginia, flipped sides to vote in favor of confirmation on Thursday. During his hearing, Carson famously hesitated to pledge that he’d prevent taxpayer money from going to Trump-run businesses.
