Captain Abdel-Salam al-Mahdawi, the head of Benghazi’s criminal-investigation police unit, went missing Wednesday night after police say he was seized by armed men. At the time of his abduction, Mahdawi was reportedly prepared to name suspects in the murder of a former Benghazi police chief last November. A body charred by hydrochloric acid was found in the city, but it has not been identified and police will neither confirm nor deny whether it is Mahdawi.
