Operatives in Bernie Sanders’s campaign have been caught wearing Culinary Union pins to gain access to Vegas strip hotel employee areas in order to curry favor with potential Nevada caucus voters. The union confirmed that it had discovered the subversion, and maintained that it wants to remain neutral until after the Feb. 20 caucus. “We are disappointed and offended,” read the union’s official statement. Jeff Weaver, Sanders’s campaign manager, said that the staffers never misrepresented their identities. “Obviously there was some confusion,” he said. “We would not want anyone making a misrepresentation of who they are. To the extent that happened, I am unhappy about that.” The campaign has not responded to further request for comment from The Daily Beast.
