The Oscars already have their first shocker before any statuettes have even been handed out. The board of governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to disqualify the song “Alone Yet Not Alone” and rescind its Oscar nomination. The decision was made after the board investigated allegations that one of the songwriters, Bruce Broughton, “emailed [some of the other 239] members of the branch to make them aware of his submission during the nominations voting period," said the Academy in a statement. Boughton, who wrote the song for a small movie (also called Alone Yet Not Alone), said, “I'm devastated. I indulged in the simplest grassroots campaign and it went against me when the song started getting attention.”
