Best Super Bowl Ads 2009
Was there a mega-flop like the two guys kissing in that Snickers ad or a classic like Apple’s 1984? Not really. But the commercials during Superbowl XLIII still scored. Here are five of our favorites.
Funniest: CareerBuilder.com Because people, especially when in large groups drinking cheap domestic beer, want laughs.
Best Thing Pepsi Has Done Since 'The Pepsi Challenge': Refresh Anthem, featuring Bob Dylan and Will.i.am So no one gets it in the crotch, and there is neither irony, sarcasm nor snark is this piece, but Pepsi does a great job pairing Bob Dylan and will.i.am in a rendition of Dylan’s Forever Young.
Best Avoidance of Detroit's Implosion: Hyundai Genesis The premise of this ad: auto executives around the world are livid that the Hyundai Genesis has won the North American Car of the Year award. But wait! How not to make this incredibly sad, given the state of America’s auto industry? Easy: Just leave Americans out of the ad and voila! Sad becomes funny.
Best Imitation of The Office: Doritos Crystal Ball There is no shortage of commercials featuring awkward guys in ties saying awkward things as awkwardness ensues. And most of these commercials are awful. Exception: this gem of juvenile male humor, featuring a not-so-magic crystal ball.
Best In-House Promo: Heroes We’re not quite sure what the new season of Heroes is about based on this ad, and yes, The Apprentice with Joan Rivers looked quite promising. But for fun and high production values, NBC did its best work with this one.
