At this price, you’d think Slate could have been thrown in there. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos may have paid more than four times what The Washington Post was worth, according to analysis by Reuters—although some analysts were quick to point out that it’s hard to put a price on a major newspaper. Bezos paid $250 million for the Post and a few other assets, although the valuation of the paper appears to be closer to $60 million. It could help the sales of other major newspapers, such as the Los Angeles Times or the Chicago Tribune, and if the Sulzbergers ever decide to sell The New York Times, they could get around $5 billion, despite that the paper is worth around $1.8 billion in the current market. Washington Post CEO Donald Graham said he based his price on what other buyers had offered to pay for it.
