A voluntary agreement reached between the federal government and some of America’s largest companies Tuesday will reduce a greenhouse gas that’s 10,000 times as potent as carbon dioxide. Hydrofluorocarbons used in air conditioning and refrigeration will be curtailed or completely eliminated by Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Red Bull, Kroger, Honeywell, and Dupont. The plan would be the same as taking 15 million cars off the road for a decade.
