He probably didn’t use PayPal to do it, but billionaire Peter Thiel gave Ron Paul quite a bit of money in the month of January. The PayPal cofounder, who was one of the original Facebook investors, was revealed Monday to have given $1.7 million to a super PAC that backs Ron Paul in two separate donations, according to a filing with the FEC. The super PAC, Endorse Liberty, raised $2.3 million in total in the month of January, meaning Thiel’s money accounted for 75 percent of its first-month haul. The super PAC solely backs Paul for president. Thiel donated $900,000 to Endorse Liberty in December 2011 as well.
