More than 50 senior Nigerian officials have been fired over corruption after billions of dollars allocated for the fight against Boko Haram was stolen. The sacked officials include major generals, brigadier generals, lieutenant colonels and colonels—all those tasked with wiping out the Islamic insurgency that has killed thousands over the past few years. An officer speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity said dozens had already been dismissed in the shakeup, while an army representative said only that “quite a number” had been fired in the scandal. The names of all those involved have not yet been disclosed, but two former chiefs of defense staff are among those facing corruption allegations.
