The Buffalo Bills named Kathryn Smith as their quality control-special teams coach Wednesday, making her the first full-time female coach in NFL history. “Kathryn Smith has done an outstanding job in the seven years that she has worked with our staff,” Bills Head Coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. Smith served as an administrative assistant under Ryan this past season and held the same role during his final season with the New York Jets in 2014. She has also worked as a player personnel assistant with the Jets for seven years. The announcement comes less than a year after the Arizona Cardinals hired Jen Welter as a training-camp assistant coach.
