‘Blade Runner 2049’ Hits No. 1 With Disappointing Ticket Sales

“Blade Runner 2049” topped the box office charts, despite making significantly less than expected on its opening weekend. The sequel to the 1982 sci-fi cult classic, “Blade Runner,” about futuristic androids, had strong advanced ticket sales and positive reviews. It was expected to bring in $45 million to $50 million, but generated only $31.5 million in ticket sales. Its limited number of screenings due to the movie's 163-minute running time is a possible factor in its under-performance.
