Worried about the crop of candidates shaping up for next year’s mayoral race, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg did some recruitment of his own. According to The New York Times, in a call several months ago, Bloomberg tried to persuade Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to run. Clinton, who is considered a leading Democratic contender for president in 2016, said she wasn’t interested. Bloomberg and Clinton are friends from their parallel careers in New York politics in the early 2000s, but Bloomberg has also signaled his support for likely candidate Christine Quinn, currently a city council member.
