Yemeni bodega owners in New York City are boycotting the New York Post for supporting President Trump's attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). The newspaper published a front-page photo of the Twin Towers on September 11th, alongside an edited quote from a recent speech by Omar that suggests she minimized the seriousness of 9/11. On Saturday, bodega owners with the Yemeni American Merchants Association, announced they would stop selling the Post due to the coverage of Omar. “We call on our community and allies across NYC to boycott the sale and purchase of New York Post to send the message that we will not allow their hate permeate our harmonious communities,” the association said in their statement.
The congresswoman's speech, which she gave at a banquet for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, urged Muslim Americans to stand up for their civil liberties as Americans. CAIR has condemned the life-threatening tweet from President Trump attacking Omar, and called on Democratic and Republican leadership to publicly show support of Omar.
