An unidentified body was found near a Costa Rican Airbnb where a Florida woman who went missing last week was staying, NBC News reports. A spokeswoman for the Costa Rican agency investigating Carla Stefaniak’s Nov. 27 disappearance told the network that a body “partially buried in plastic bags” was discovered by cadaver dogs at the back of the property. Stefaniak was reportedly in the country celebrating her 36th birthday with her sister-in-law, but she never boarded her Nov. 28 flight back home. Stefaniak’s brother, Mario Caicedo, told the network he thought his sister was either “kidnapped or abducted.” According to NBC News, Stefaniak was last heard from on Nov. 27, after she dropped off her sister-in-law at the airport. Stefaniak reportedly told a friend the Airbnb’s power cut out amid heavy rains and said it was “super sketchy.” She also FaceTimed a friend shortly after and said she was considering “asking security guards at the Airbnb if they could buy her some water.” A State Department official told NBC the agency was working with local officials in the search for Stefaniak.
